Design Intent

Design Intent

The term 'design intent' is sometimes used to refer to early design decisions, that is, what the designer intends to design. There are several questions that a designer or engineer must ask prior to starting a design.

What do we need to achieve?
Can we incorporate another operation?
Can we reduce Set Up time?
How can manufacturing cost be reduced?
Can the design be streamlined to reduce operator error?
Will the performance be repeatable with different operators?
Will certain areas require greater wear resistance?
