Q&A's

  • Inquiring about Trapezoidal thread gages. Does Glastonbury manufacture Go and Nogo plug and ring gages?

Trapezoidal is a catch-all thread group that includes ACME, STUB ACME, and the ISO ACME type of thread.

We make gages for all of those and more. Further, we work to the standards they are made too. ASME B1.5 for the ACME, B1.8 for the STUB ACME, and ISO 2901, 2902,2903,2904, and DIN103.

We also work to many other thread forms and standards:

    BS 21, 919, 2779, …….

    DIN, 158, 405, 477, 2779, 2999,…..

    ISO 7, 68, 228, 1502,  2853, 4570, 11117, 11363, 80368,…….

    JIS B 0251, 0252, ….

So, yes. We manufacture gages [fixed limit GO and NOT GO type as well as variable] for the Tr thread.

  • Does GSG offer Hexalobe Gages to the ISO10664-2014 standards?

Yes, we offer both ring and plug Hexalobes to the most recent standards along with custom sizes. In addition to this we also manufacture Hexalobe depth gages.

  • Does GSG offer custom sizes for their Chamfer Gages?

Yes, our chamfer/counterbore gages are offered in any custom configuration. We manufacture them for many different custom applications. To date we have manufactured up to 7.500" in diameter and up to 26.000" long in many different angles. Depending on the configuration, sometimes a master is required. GSG manufactures all masters in addition to the chamfer gages.

  • Can I obtain certification after I have already received my gage(s)?

In some cases yes. This varies depending on the type of gage. All GSG product is inspected in our labs prior to shipping, however, not all data required to form a certification is retained in every case. If you originally ordered a standard or A2LA certification but have misplaced it, GSG will be able to supply a copy of the cert on record.

  • Who pays for shipping if I believe my gage has an error in size?

Correlation issues can happen from time to time with any gage product. The use of different equipment along with differences in technics by inspectors in itself raises this possiblity. If you believe that your gage has an error in size GSG will gladly accept the gage back for re-evaluation. All shipping charges are the responsibilty of the end user unless the claim is found warranted by GSG's labs. If this happens, GSG pays all shipping charges along with any repair fees. You will be reimbursed for the shipping charges to our facility.

  • Can you offer closer tolerances on mic masters?

The short answer is yes, we can manufacture surveillance masters to higher accuracies. That being said, items like our mic masters are assemblies that are individual sections bolted together. Because introducing a bolts or threaded rod can increase stress on  individual sections once clamped together, there are limitations of how close we can get. Typically our geometry is with .00005  and our size  tolerance is ±.0001 which is satisfactory for a mic with .001” increments.

Depending on how close of a tolerance your looking for, we may need to change the construction from a multiple piece to a solid. Generally, if a customer is looking for closer tolerances than our mic masters offer, they instead purchase individual “master disc’s” which offer extremely close tolerances down to .00002”.
